HISTORICAL AND TOURIST INFORMATION

The county of Constanta is situated on the South-Eastern part of Romania, being boarded by the county of Tulcea, in the East by the Black Sea, in the South by Bulgaria and in the West by the Danube River. The surface of Constanta is of 7071 km2 and this makes it 8th largest among Romanian counties and 5th  based on the number of inhabitants having a total of 756 053 inhabitants.

Constanta is one of the most representative tourist resorts from Romania. It offers a wide range of tourist activities thanks to its position, geography, clime, relief, archeological vestiges, natural reservations, amusement and treatment, choice of doing trips and cruises.

The Romanian seaside of the Black Sea is one of the most important tourist resorts of the country. In 2007, 1,5 million people visited the Romanian seaside.

The Marine Day is a well known event that takes place on 15th August at the Tomis Port from Constanta. During the day, there are organized festivities, marine sport games, competitions with barks, shows and fire-works.

The Romanian rivers benefit from the Black Sea charm (3rd European sea in length and 2nd in depth with a low salinity (17-18% at the coast, water temperature during summer is of 20-25 Celsius degree). There are no currents, plants or dangerous fish inside the Black Sea. During the summer season, the temperatures can reach 45C, but the sea breezes, rich in aerosol, calm down a little the high temperature. The sand from the beaches is very fine.  Alongside the coast, one can visit the resorts that correspond to all ages and all tastes: Navodari, Mamaia, Constanta, Eforie Nord, Eforie Sud, Costinesti, Techirghiol, Olimp, Neptun, Jupiter, Cap Aurora, Venus, Saturn, Mangalia, 2 Mai.

The seaport of Constanta has road and railway connections with the main transport routes from Romania. At the same time, it is the biggest seaport from the Black Sea.
