HISTORICAL AND TOURIST PIECES OF INFORMATION

Timisoara is the biggest city of Timisoara county placed in Banat, west part of Romania.  With 311,586 inhabitants (on 1^st January2009) Timişoara is the second largest Romanian city. Its names comes from the river Timis, named by the Romans in ancient times Tibisis or Tibiscus.

 

It is a city located on the place where the parallel 45°47′ nord latitude crosses the meridian  in longitude of  21°17′  east . Situated at the cross meeting of one of the most important commercial routes that make connection with Occident and Orient part, Timisoara is a place where many cultures and civilizations have left their marks.

 

Timisoara is a main istorical, economic, social and cultural center called as well “Little Vienna"

Timisoara offers to the ones who want to visit it a lot of choices both to know its present and past. In this way one can see its historical vestiges, scientific, cultural institutions, museums, art galleries, theaters, concerts, traditional restaurants or night clubs and discos. The offer is generous and satisfies all tastes.

Student city, with more than 40.000 students distributed in the 7 biggest universities, Timisora is delighed with the most beautiful campus from the country. Romanian, German, Hungarian, Serb, Rroma people together with numerous Greck, Italian, Chinese, Arabic and African people all live and work together.
