HISTORIC AND TOURIST INFORMATION

Bucharest is Romanian capital and has a total population of 2,3 million inhabitants. It is situated at half distance between Black Sea and Carpathian Mountains, close to the Danube River, having thus a temperate- continental climate (-3 degree Celsius in January and 25 degrees in July).

Based on the oldest historical attestations, Bucharest is founded on the bank of the river Dambovita in 1459 by Vlad Tepes. His name reminds us of a shepherd named Bucur of Albanian origin, which, in Albanian means “beautiful, ”beauty”. This is the reason why Bucharest can be translated as the “city of beauty”.

During the communism period of Nicolae Ceausescu, a significant part of the historical centre of the city, including the oldest churches were destroyed and were replaced by buildings and neighborhood typical to the communism style. Out of this period can be seen the Civic Centre and the Palace of People, which is now the Parliament residence (the Palace of Dictators) and is famous of being the biggest building from the world after Pentagon.

Bucharest is a city full of parks and gardens, surrounded by lacks and forests. Starting with 1930, thanks to its architecture and boulevards surrounded by trees, Bucharest received the name “Little Paris”.

It is also famous for its active night life. Bucharest can offer you all kinds of fun. There are clubs, pubs, bars, night clubs and casinos everywhere. Many clubs are focused around the historical centre. These places are opened almost all night and they wait for you with good music, delicious drunks and friendly atmosphere.
